Microsoft Reinstates Seconds Display in Windows 10 Taskbar Clock Following User Feedback

In a move reflecting responsiveness to user feedback, Microsoft has announced the return of the seconds display in the Windows 10 taskbar clock. This feature, previously removed without formal acknowledgment, is set to be reinstated in the upcoming cumulative update, as detailed in the release notes for Windows 10 Build 19045.5912.

The initial removal of the seconds display occurred during the rollout of a new Calendar flyout UI, which, while enhancing event integration, omitted the seconds from the clock view. This change, implemented gradually across devices, led to user confusion and dissatisfaction, particularly among those who rely on precise timekeeping for professional or personal tasks.

The decision to restore the seconds display underscores the importance of user input in software development. It also highlights the challenges of balancing UI enhancements with the retention of familiar functionalities. As Windows 10 approaches its end-of-support date on October 14, 2025, such updates demonstrate Microsoft’s commitment to maintaining user satisfaction.

The reinstated feature will begin rolling out with the May 2025 optional update and is expected to reach all users by the June 2025 Patch Tuesday on June 10, 2025.

This development serves as a reminder of the dynamic nature of software ecosystems and the pivotal role of user engagement in shaping the evolution of widely-used platforms like Windows.
