Microsoft has decided to discontinue support for Android applications on Windows 11, despite introducing this feature back in 2021. The rationale behind Microsoft’s decision to terminate Android application support remains unclear.

A notable move has been made by the US-based technology giant, Microsoft, regarding Windows 11. The company has decided to remove the Android application support it introduced just a few years ago. This feature allowed users to run Android applications on their computers.

Microsoft’s impactful feature was first introduced in 2021. Some developers made their applications available to Windows 11 users through the Microsoft Store. Additionally, Amazon’s app store for Android was also made available to Windows 11 users. Furthermore, some games and applications from Google Play were made compatible with Windows computers. However, all of this will come to an end as of March 5, 2025.

Engadget reached out to Microsoft regarding the discontinuation of this feature, which was useful for many. A company spokesperson stated that they regularly evaluate customer needs and adjust features accordingly, adding some and removing others as needed. However, no clear explanation was provided as to why this feature, which was heavily promoted upon its release, is being discontinued. Despite the company mentioning customer needs, Windows 11 includes numerous features that many users do not utilize.

Meanwhile, Amazon also made a statement regarding the matter parallel to Microsoft’s decision. The company announced that its mobile application store will cease accepting new applications as of today. Therefore, the Amazon Appstore will prohibit the addition of further content starting today. When March 5, 2025 arrives, this feature will be consigned to history.
